Founded by a group of businesspersons and health professionals, SHF is committed to leveraging expertise and resources to enhance community health outcomes. With appropriate registrations and partnerships in all countries of operation, SHF is well positioned to implement impactful public health and climate action programs across Africa.

Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC)

Male Circumcision is the removal of the foreskin, which is the fold of skin that covers the head of the penis. When the procedure is done in a clinical setting by a trained healthcare worker, it is termed Medical Male Circumcision.

In South Africa, government encourages males to circumcise as part of efforts to reduce the spread of HIV in our communities.

Climate Change (CC) is the long-term alteration of Earth’s climate and weather patterns.  Everyone is at risk of experiencing some negative health effects from climate change, which include:

  • Heat related illnesses and deaths;
  • Spread of infectious diseases;
  • Air pollution;
  • Injuries and death due to extreme climate events like floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and droughts.

SHF is involved in CC Awareness; Resilience Building and Disaster Recovery Activities as part of its mandate to Strengthen Health systems. SHF also leverages its voice, access and experience to support and promote CC Mitigation by communities and partners.

Aganang Community Centre, is an SHF led project to expand access to basic health and social services to residents in Vumaskloof settlement of Ward 14 of Tshwane Region 2. 

Land has been secured and is currently in development. SHF plans to set up:

  • Primary Health Clinic with outreach capacity to reach far-lying areas of the settlement,
  • Day-care centre
  • After-school drop-in centre with soup kitchen and
  • Skills development facilities.

SHF is seeking Individual and Corporate Sponsors to support the setup and operation of these much needed facilities for this community.

Building on experiences from the Covid-19 pandemic, SHF has established a network of nurses and community-based health workers for the rapid deployment of public health support and direct service delivery activities. These teams are prepared for community education and awareness, contact tracing, home-based care, vaccination, and surge capacity clinical care.

RD teams also stand ready to support community recovery efforts in the wake of more frequent climate related disasters and emergencies. 

SHF is constantly seeking trained and able individuals for both volunteer and paid locum positions as part of RD Teams.

The Brooklyn Clinic (TBC) – is a learning and sustainability project of SHF. Housed at the Head Office, TBC is a staging site for Health Service Outreaches, Staff training, controlled services and health related research. TBC allows SHF to develop and test innovative approaches to health services and interventions before taking them to scale in the broader community. TBC offers group specific services including Men’s Monday, Women’s Wednesdays and Children’s Thursdays.

Through the Home & Better project, SHF leverages its network of community-based organizations to support migrants in Southern Africa to voluntarily repatriate to their countries of origin. Working with cohorts of common nationalities, SHF organizes appropriate linkages.

The project supports migrants to save funds, identify economic opportunities back home; pool travel logistics and facilitate translation and transfer of health and school records so that returning migrants can be able to continue with education and treatment for Chronic Diseases.

Community Partner Development Program – is a programs localization project of SHF that seeks to develop and empower Community Based Organizations in our areas of operation. CBOs in our areas of operation are encouraged to apply to be a part of the year-long programs. Below is the link for registering for the 2025 program. Registration closes on 31 January 2025

Ensuring Employee Health and Wellness is not just  mandated but it is also a very sound investment to ensured continued  optimal performance of teams and individuals in the workplace.

SHF offers employee health and wellness services that include:

Tega-Bagolo Project is a community outreach project in which SHF supports the care for the elderly in our communities. In the inaugural implementation of the project, SHF supported the West Rand Department of Social Development on an outreach program to assist elderly stay in healthy shape at the Department’s Golden Games.

In South Africa, obesity has emerged as an urgent public health crisis. In 2016, 31% of
adult males, 68% of adult females, and 13% of children under five years old were either
overweight or obese (NDoH, 2019). The SHF ObEasy Project seeks to support the some of the interventions cited in the Strategy for the Prevention and Management of Obesity in
South Africa 2023-2028 which include Promoting Physical Activity in Community; Implementing SBCC campaigns to promote obesity prevention and training community champions and role models to promote healthy Lifestyle choices. ObEasy support groups hold weekly meetings and carry-out activities and discussions to manage obesity and hold campaigns on its prevention.

SHF supported the West Rand Department of Social Development on occasion of Golden Games in Munsieville. The games aim to encourage  the elderly to remain active through regular exercise and sports. SHF provided health screening and treatment for common sicknesses and non-communicable diseases. It was a well attended event despite the cold weather.

SHF Vhembe Vaccination Team with Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, then Limpopo MEC for Health at the conclusion of Covid-19 Vaccination outreach session. SHF delivered over 32,000 Covid-19 Vaccinations and Technical Assistance to the Department of Health in KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo and Gauteng.
